  1. Well, first I want to thank everyone for genuinely offering supportive advice, either to stick with it or get out. I appreciate all opinions and views, and I have looked at the issue from several different viewpoints than I had thought about before. What drew me to nursing? I have to say that honestly it is the scientific aspect. I have no problem with the fluids one they are not attached to the person- weird, I know, but it's just me. I really want to be a CRNA eventually, and this is just part of the process. Before anyone flies off the handle about how I should be more empathetic before I have anyone's life in my hands, I am very scientifically/ technically minded and am very good handling stress under difficult situations. It is just that I am not as emotional a person as I probably should be if providing bedside care. (please don't think I am some kind of cold, hard b-tch. I am really just trying to be honest here and get some direction from the pros.) I like people and truly appreciate the sanctity of life. But I think I might be better suited to a more technical than personal aspect of care. I read some postings about anesthesia assistants, but they seem to have less flexibility than CRNA's. The anesthesia part just fascinates me. Anyways, just a little explanation, and thanks again for all responses. This is a big decision for me!
  2. I am so upset and don't know exactly what to do. I am four weeks into my CNA I class (required to start RN school, which I am scheduled for in August). Clinicals start in 2 more weeks and I am skeeved out! I don't like touching people and am absolutely disgusted at the idea of wahing people's hair, giving massages w/o gloves (who is doing this for me???), bathing them, and especially cleaning up thier poop (my teacher got mad at me for asking if I cold wear a mask while doing this). When I found out about removing fecal impactions, well that sent me over the edge. Class is also very boring! I just don't know if this is for me. Will it get better when I am an RN, or is this all it is? I am sorry and mean no disrespect to those of you who love it, but I just dread going to class every day. What is going on with me?
  3. I know this has been dead for a while, but what a great find! I am moving from Raleigh, NC to Va Beach this spring and going to get my RN. I have been accpeted at College of the Albemarle (comm. coll. in NC, will give me in-state tuition) but found the RN in 15 months at MCI. Wow, that's like a full year less than the CC program. But now I am really worried...it doesn't seem like the best option. My biggest concerns are having ECPI on my resume and not getting adequate training. I have always thought of that as "not a real school", know what I mean? (sorry if I offend anyone, just what I always thought) But I love the idea of being done so fast, not to mention I won't have that daily commute to Elizabeth City, NC. Has anyone had any negatve effects as a result of choosing to go to MCI? Did you get the education you hoped for? Also, what are the costs? The guy was very evasive with me and would not give a number when I talked to him on the phone. It's been a while now, so let me know what you think (and what I should do!) Thanks, Laura
