Sorry to hear what has happened to you First of all they did not give you enough training , AND YOU ARE AN LPN NOT AN STNA ( STATE TESTED NURSES AIDE ) Always remember that you put in the time and studied to be a nurse SO BE A NURSE She was just being a pain that is all you gave report to and STNA and the nurse There is nothing they can do to you GO FINE A GOOD JOB and AI would make sure the DON is aware of what has happened do it in writting and keep a copy

There is a community college here in Mansfield , oh area that requires STNA first before LPN

Go for it , I was 26 when I finished , single with one child it was hard , but the out come was / is GREAT it will not gget any easier the longer you wait

I really don't know either but so do feel that way , when I am asked what kind of nurse I am I say A GOOD NURSE , one that can care for you and will do the best job possible and make sure your taken good care of

Advice Well first make yourself a cheat sheet with all the residents you give meds to.then write down what each needs, crushed meds, bloodsugars and so on.You will have toget your self a system worked out , don't go from room1 to room 8 go in order. if where you work has flags on the MAR's there should be 4 or 5 flags of different color. at the start of your shift pull the flags so that you will see them . Mine in my facility are red, green, yellow and blue I use the red for 8am, green for 11am -12 noon,yellow for 2pm and blue for 4pm It is very helpful esp when ya work a different shift the flags are there and I just follow them The one thing I have learned over 21 years is I don not spend time talking with the residents while I do med pass, I get done and then spend time with them, that way I am not rushed with med pass or with visiting the residents Hope this helps Nan

I have worked in AL for 10years now and I love it. I have be the HCC/DON the entire time . it is so much better then LTC I think I have resident that need no assisst to one that has a colostomy. the first AL I worked at I opened, I wa here for 9 years until the company got to crazy, the one I am at now is a nice layed back place Go for it AL is great

if the RD or RDO will not do anything then go tothe next step the SRDO I to have worked in Assisted livin and sometimes you just have to go one step higher

Okay ----I am from Ohio to, I do not think we should have med techs either.but what are we to do??Yes they are cheaper, but in Ohio they can not give insulin,prn's or narc's . Correct, they can do topical tx only. When I was in nursing school they were talking about phasing out LPN's now 21 years later we are still here. I suggest you contact the board of nursing and get the info on what med techs can and can not do. As for my AL they do not want med techs.They want exp nurses. best of luck to you

I agree with the other on this thread, you will find this no matter where you go(grass is not greener on the other side) always make sure you do your job to the best of your ability, cover your *** and be a great nurse. Most likely years down the road you will look back and be glad you ran into people like you work with now, for someday you will be able to. somethhing about others like them Best of Luck

Well after 21 years of doing what I like , I guess I just want t stay doing what I like. Don't get me wrong I started out toward my RN, I have only a few classes left, but for some reason I just put it down and forgot about it. I have worked in all fields of nursing in 21 years, seen all kinds of thing Here in the midwest where I am from LPN's can go along way and do alot of things Most of all I like the hands on with the residents. I don't want to be to the point that I can't spend time with my residents because of paperwork and reports and what ever else. I just want to be a good nurse to all my residents And as an LPN I can do that Plus it has given me a good life and income

Assisted living is totally different, it is like working in a nice Hotel but you are still taking care of residents,Still being a nurse, As DON you are responsible for everything ( just like an RN would be) see they trust the LPN to know what they are doing. We get to do activities,outing and such. The residents are usually not frail so they can do more things . there is NO SKILLED CARE INVOLVED. Most all residents are up and about , walker or wheelchair,We laugh and have alot of fun. Where I am I am planning a party on the 31st with cake and suck for the residents. And for Thanksgiving we are having a family dinner with all the fixings. If you would like more info go to Assisted living .com

ALF ARE GREAT PLACES TO WORK, I am an LPN (21 years) I have be the DON at a ALF for 9 years The residents are different than N.H. residents, the families are super .
