  1. Yes. MTSA awards the Master of Science, with a focus in Nurse Anesthesia. UT - Memphis, Chattanooga, and Knoxville award the MSN.
  2. From what I have heard from those who have taken the EC English Comp exam it *is* very tough. No one that I have personally talked with who has taken the exam has made a grade higher than a "C" - although I'm sure some have, just none that I know of Far better to take the class and transfer it to EC - but then that's just my .02 :) regards - Bill
  3. Ha! Knowing Spazzy as I do (Hi-ya Spazzy! ) I seriously doubt she was at a loss for words - more likely she is just too much of a lady to say what she was thinkin' --- Sorry, couldn't resist :chair:
  4. Good advice! :) At this point, EC *DOES* accept the Human Growth & Dvpmt CLEP for Lifespan. It's been crazy, first they did, then they didn't, and now they *DO* again! regards - Bill
  5. Good advice! :) At this point, EC *DOES* accept the Human Growth & Dvpmt CLEP for Lifespan. It's been crazy, first they did, then they didn't, and now they *DO* again! regards - Bill
  6. Mona - Nursing Concepts 1 & 2 may still be taken prior to enrollment. There is also still the waiver of Nursing Concepts 2 for LPN's graduating from an NLN-approved program within the past 5 years. Hope this helps! Bill
  7. EXCELLENT advice! Canyon College claims accreditation from the following: Central States Consortium of Colleges and Schools, (CSCCS) The National Board of Education (NBOE) The American Naturopathic Medical Accreditation Board (ANMAB)* *info from Canyon College Website None of these three so called accrediting agencies is a federally recognized agency -ergo, no financial aid. Canyon is not accredited by one of the regional agencies (for example, the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges) either, which means that should you desire to pursue graduate work at a regionally accredited institution your Canyon BSN would be worthless. The University of Wyoming program is excellent. As are the ones offered by the University of South Alabama and Fort Hays State University. If independent study is your thing, the BSN offered by Thomas Edison State College is very good. All of these are regionally accredited colleges or universities, and, if I recall correctly, all of the programs are at least NLN accredited. Hope this helps. Bill
  8. Hi Jnette - You are quite right about the Lifespan as of two years ago. However, EC now *DOES* accept the CLEP Human Growth and Development in place of the Lifespan exam. IIRC, it is pass/fail though, and no grade is assigned. Very confusing, as first they did, then they didn't, and now they do. LOL EC also accepts the DANTES Lifespan Developmental Psychology exam, and they do assign a grade for it. Hope this helps. regards - Bill
  9. That's how I read the interpretation of the law too. I think there are three parts that must be met in order for OT to be cut: 1. Pay must be quoted as salary, not hourly; AND 2. Must exceed $400 (can't remember the exact figure) per week; AND 3. Must be classified as "administrative" The way I read it is if your pay is quoted as an hourly rate, you are still due the OT. I will try to find the exact article and post either it or a link. Hope this helps. Bill
  10. Greetings List - For any of you who are interested, I think I still have a copy of "What Should I Take." This was a list of all reqirements for the ASN at Excelsior and includes recommended courses and where to get the credit for the lowest cost. It gives a listing of the ECE, CLEP, or DANTES exam which will meet each requirement. It was designed by some of the members of RNStudyGroup and some of the other Excelsior yahoo groups. PM me if you would like a copy and I will try to dig it up. Please make sure you include the email addy that you would like for me to use when sending the list. regards - Bill
  11. And you can STILL say that Spazzy :) You know your recommendation is like "gold" with the moderator -- Hope you are doing well, BTW! regards - Bill
  12. Xoe - Colorado Community College (the system) offers both A & P and Microbiology online. An advantage to their program is that you also get a lab credit, which is required by some state BONs. Hope this helps. Bill http://www.ccconline.org
  13. Sorry - this was a blatt :)
  14. hhhhmmmmm.....as a former farm boy, I always counted my eggs 'fore they hatched...in fact, my sweet ole granny insisted on it....now, counting my chickens 'fore *they* hatched was a 'hole n'ther story :)
  15. Chris -- I sent you a pm. regards -- Bill
  16. Alex - I confirmed with EC that they do indeed accept the Human Growth and Development CLEP. There was a short period of time when it was NOT accepted, but it's kosher now :) I think that you can also confirm this at the EC website. Hope this helps. Bill
  17. Our hospital policy is that PT/PTTs are not to be drawn from any line. In some rare instances we have had docs request that it come from a line, but not often. If we can't get a venus stick, we will do an arterial rather than use a line draw.
  18. Check out the Deaconess College of Nursing program. They are accredited, and IIRC, they have a totally online program. (I think you do have to schedule a couple of weekends on campus for clinical check-offs, but other than that, clinicals can be done locally.) The program is actually an ASN program which will allow you to sit for the NCLEX-RN, but there is a practical nursing component whereby you can sit for the NCLEX-PN prior to graduating. My understanding is that you do not have to have prior clinical experience in order to begin this program. Hope this helps. :) regards -- Bill http://www.deaconess.edu
  19. Found it!! :) You hit the nail on the head...was not spelling the title correctly .... duh!!!
  20. Where might one purchase this book? I did a title search at various online bookstores but turned up zilch It sounds like a great read. regards -- Bill
  21. Arrogance begats [sic] Ignorance....hhhmmmm...and the ignoramus of the year award goes to????????
  22. Hi Jess - Both the AAS(n) and the AS(n) require 30 hours in General Education. The basic difference in the two degrees is in how the 7 credit hours of electives is distributed. The AS(n) requires that the 7 elective hours be in the Arts and Sciences (for example, religion, sociology, psychology, algebra, etc.). The AAS(n) allows the 7 hours to be "free" electives, meaning that they could be from business, health, computers, etc. The AAS(n) allows a bit more flexibility for someone with prior college credit to bring in previous work as part of the free electives. For someone starting "from scratch", I would recommend the AS(n), but that's just one opinion :) Hope this helps. regards - Bill
  23. Jess - I sent you a pm. Bill
  24. You might also want to take a look at Fort Hays State University and the University of South Alabama. Both have great RN-to-BSN programs, totally online, and very reasonable per credit hour tuition rates. Let me know if you can't find the programs and I will send you the links. regards -- Bill
