Med Errors
I don't know what was the real order. The resident assumed that she was understood by the nurse and didn't know she's new.

Hi Suzanne..i'm in the middle of processing my visa screen.someone told me that I can just cross the border and have my TN visa(and apply for SSN after) and go back here while I wait for SSN to apply in California..and eventually my license.Do you know if New York is doing this?.My nearest border is Buffalo,NY..i planned to drive and be back in the afternoon. Will they ask for a job offer if i submit my VS for a TN visa? THank you very much...ope to hear from you..

Here's a question for all of you ER nurses (sad and kind of long)
i'm so sorry for your loss.. i usually don't let the family sees the patient unless i cleaned him/her up..and hopefully then the family can see him in a more"presentable way".i tell them that tubes/iv lines are still intact for coroner's case.if and ever a nurse overlook this..chaplain is always around to double check.

Gloves Necessary For SQ Injections?
i don't wear gloves myself..but it was taught in school. There are certain drugs that you need to wear gown and gloves..methotrexate(not sure about the spelling...)

Med Errors
i've seen a lot of wrong iv bags hanging..i just talked to the nurse involved..no harm done to the patients. newly grad took verbal order from resident..she gave oxytocin/pitocin iv push..multigravida..pt was transferred to lr immediately and was monitored by the resident herself the whole night(resident was so furious!)-nothing happened to the pt/baby...nurse got fired.

Desired Dose ___________ x no. of ml Stock at hand 25 __ x 2 ml = 0.66ml 75 I still have to think about your second question.I don't have the formula in my hand.I'll be working tomorrow so i'll try to look for the manual and answer your question..- Desperately need your advice ED nurses!
moving on is not a bad thing..i hope your nicu family will be happy for you.do what your heart is telling you.you can always pick up shifts in nicu whenever.i had the same problem before because my first love was or but i'm in a different, more exciting and challenging environment now and still enjoying. goodluck and hope you make a right choice.- We lost one of our own this morning
so sorry for your loss..i feel sad:( ...- how many break(s) in your 12 hrs. shift?
same here..in our er,,if you work 12 hrs on day shift..two 30-min breaks and one 45-min break..you are only paid 11.25 hrs.night shift is in the discretion of the charge nurse.if its busy..everybody gets 30 mins-1 hr.sometimes none at all...if its not..we take our break all together anywhere from 1-2 hrs as long as every area is covered.- Humor Me PLEASE....
took nclex last month..passed on 1st take..but it took me 265 qs..i did remember the survey about pearson staff and setup,etc..and not to disclosed any material/part of the nclex.do you think that if u fail they won't ask u any feedback about the center or about not disclosing parts of the nclex?- about digoxin level?
mosby's book says normal value is 0.5-2.5 ng/ml..i guess that would be d.- What made you decide to work where you do
well..my first job was in the or and happened that i left and went into medtrans..got bored and went back to nursing..got accepted in er and learned my way..still loving it!..i don't want to be anyplace else because i don't get to see my patients the next day and limited bedside care too(no bed baths!!)- Date MD's??
Dated doctors twice..yikes!..one in my workplace and the other.. nevermind..i have nothing against them ..someone posted "u're dating the person and not the profession"..i agree..its just that we have different career plans and so we have to part ways(thats true for both of them). I have a fellow nurse that dated one of our ER MD (she is now married with a fireman)..they still work together and stayed to be good friends.- which shift do you prefer 3-11 or 11-7?
i prefer to work 11-7. i work in a busy emerg dept and most of the patients come in after office hours..very seldom that i've worked the 3-11 shift.never worked in a health care setting?..well maybe i would suggest the 3-11 shift..and take it from there..its difficult to do the graveyard shift if u haven't been sleep deprived before. there is evening and night shift premium..ours is just 25 cents difference($1.30/hr for evening and $1.55/hr for nights). its also mandatory for us to work every other weekend..weekend premium is $1.70/hr. i'm in toronto, canada goodluck and hope you enjoy it!- Gcs
ok guys..dunno if this one was asked before...i had a patient 2 days ago..came in via ems.. post ictal(unwitnessed)...hx of seizure and on dilantin(turned out he's non compliant)..pt is deaf and mute..don't know sign language but understands english(middle eastern guy).on arrival..awake and in no acute distress..gcs on scene accdg to ems was 15...i was talking/communicating with the patient through paper and pen set up...a&o x 3.md came in and assess the patient..his(md) gcs was 10/10 and said to me technically the patient can't talk.i was kinda confused myself..well..how would u assess his gcs accdg to ur experience?i asked my fellow nurses and said that gcs should be 15.haaayyy- Cell Phone Usage
in our emergency dept ..u'll see signs everywhere that u cannot use ur celfone, but there is one er md that carries his cp and use it while working..sigh!..o well..can't argue anymore. there is a cordless phone that is provided for our mds.- The attitude towards nurses on the ABC show Grey's Anatomy...
don't feel bad about the show..it ain't the real world.as far as i am concern, i am treated fairly well by our doctors and fellow nurses.respect,i think, is the right word.our doctors do compliment our work most of the time(of course can't get away with doctors who are jerks!).- What is ur average 2 week take home pay?
couldn't agree more..i usually sit for more than 2 hrs reading posts..its fun how people respond to certain questions and reacts violently to some out of topic insights..hahahaha:lol2:- Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
i've always wanted to be an accountant:) .learned to love nursing back when i was 17(2nd yr)..when i witnessed someone giving birth (hospital..during rotation in clinicals)and actually giving my nephew his first bath(cousin gave birth at home).i didn't know that my chosen career will bring me this far..somedays i regret being one because of frustrations at work...but hey i'm still here and loving it! hooray nurses!- What is ur average 2 week take home pay?
1.type of nurse?rn(emergency dept) 2. how many hours u work per week?37.5/wk 3. how many years of nursing?almost 10 yrs 4. what shift: day, evening, nights, or weekend only?days and nights 5. city and statetoronto, canada 6. average 2 week gross pay$2,595-gross...take home after taxes/benefits/union dues around $1,668...this is full time(75 hrs in 2 weeks).we have educational allowance.night shift premium($1.55/hr) and if you're in charge..additional 70 cents/hr(in my opinion, its not worth it!) with ot..let's say 8-12 hrs more per pay period ..take home is around 2k. maximum pay for nurses in ontario is $35/hr..agency nurses gets as much as $50/hr planning to move to california by the end of the year.any suggestions on what to look for in a location?(salaries and cost of living) thanks - Drug Math question
