I'm responding on the Post not others comments ! .... As a RN who started in my speciality with a certificate . Then Obtained LPN-RN-BSN . From the 90s this ADN/ ASN phased out has been going since the 70s. Now it coming to fruition. NY state as of 2020. As of July 1 2020. If you received your RN after that date . It's 10 years your're given to obtain a BSN. It's no longer a facility issue . States have passed legislation for it to happen. Now it doesn't negate the fact that ADN and BSN . All start out taking the same NCLEX and have to start out with the same kind of Nursing experience out of school. But a BSN does give you more training in management and research based . Magnet status ,blah blah blah ! It's unfortunate . But it's to try to level us up . From there point. We no longer have a fight against this BSN issue . It's here and it's staying . Please obtain it . Also, to all my LPNs . There are currently a lot of states willing to give scholarships etc . As well as jobs give tuition reimbursement. It can be done. Even with children,families etc

Hello , I Scrub and Circulate. But I'm currently a Manager. So only if we are extremely short staffed. Which rare these days . I were a CST prior to Nursing so this helped me . Hospitals are teaching RNs to scrub. Here in NYC . I guest you would have to ask . Your Manager when you're hired . About your interest. Good luck!

I'm currently in Capella's MSN in Education program now ! I guess Regions and type of facilities makes a difference with pay etc . But I know after Covid . Nurse Educators got a boost in pay. I'm in NYC so I know that definitely made a difference. As well as one's tenor as a Nurse .

I started in this field as a Porter . Made my way up to BSN. Each step which included a certificate in my specialty-LPN-RN- BSN. Now working on MS in HIT. Also had a BS in another Major! I worked Homecare as an LPN . I had Trach and Vent patients my entire 8 years as an LPN. Learned billing as well. I've worked in multiple Hospitals. LPNs are needed back in some Units ,yes! CNAs and LPNs help tremendously. In bedside care . Now as for having them sign a contract to become RNs PAs etc. is another topic .

I were hired in NYC at a Top rated Hospital with ADN. But I had a specialty. Which I still work in as an RN. But I had to sign a contract to have BSN(I were already in a program upon hire) in 3 years . So,if that answers people's questions. Yes,some do hire with ADN/ASN

I became an RN . Who were a Certified Surgical Tech . I’m utilized a lot . For the latter. Here in NYC and surrounding areas. Tri-state as well. It’s a plus when we can . Now RNs without the background in the OR. Will have to find a facility that will train them to do Scrub roles.Staff Surgical Techs are becoming scarce. So a-lot of Hospitals require RNs to now Circulate and Scrub !

I have been Scrubbing for 20 years. I became an RN two years ago ! Scrub role . As you know now . We are at the sterile field. You would have to know the instruments, the steps of each surgery. To anticipate the Surgical team etc . As a circulator. We help set up the room , get additional supplies for the case . Before and during case ( if need be ). Interview the patient before they enter the room . Arrange the room and equipment for patient care. Administration of med onto sterile field . Two separate roles .

To answer your question. Go RN - BSN -MSN. Or get into a BSN program then MSN. I have a BA. As well as ADN . Was offered To go into MSN program after the first 4 classes in My current BSN program. I declined and am currently in BSN route. Due to me undecided on what I want my MSN degree to entail. Do what’s best for you.

Upon reading all the post! I am reluctant to get a MSN in Education. It’s very informative and real. To know what’s the prospect for job opportunities. As well as how we are treated in the Nursing world. Thank you ! So I will go NP route.

Depends on the facilities. Hospitals pay on a Experience pay scale ( most). Ambulatory Surgical Centers vary. You can more negotiate when you have experience. As a New Grad. Take the average pay scale for your area . Google it !

I were told I only have 10 classes! Then ,now it’s 11. I red someone’s gripe ??????Scroll Up ! So can I have another individuals opinion,please!

Facts! I let the Reps know. They have to wait until everything is set up and started before they can come in . Unless it’s a Total/ Ortho or Spine case . Also, I let the Residents and other Staff know I need to minimize compromising sterility. Etc! But I know exactly what your talking about . I also were a Surgical Tech/LPN for 18 years. So I’ve seen a lot . In my OR career.

Welcome to Nursing. And then welcome to The OR . Always have a small spiral pocket note pad . Make notes for each Surgeon’s preferences (outside of the facilities preference cards). Write everyone’s last name and titles next to their last names. Get to know the cases and make sure you and your Scrub person work in unity. Write down every incident, even when it has nothing to do with you.In Pre-Op check Patient’s Concent , Anesthesia one as well . Check for compression device stockings, etc. it’s a lot . But you’ll get the hand of it. I were a Surgical Tech prior to going back in the OR. I did all Specialties . It’s a great experience. You’ll enjoy it. Good luck!
