I'm currently at Frontier. Typically zoom lectures are live but recorded so that you can watch them at any time. Sometimes you need to attend a live simulation but you can pick your date and time from a list of options. I think it works really well. You get the sense of community when you attend live but don't miss out if you can't make it live. The instructors have all been very supportive and available for questions /help. I've been really happy with the classes and would definitely recommend Frontier.

I don’t know when the cut off is but the sooner you apply the better I would think. They have recently expanded and started taking more students. They said now is a really good time to apply as not receiving as many apps as usual.

I think you stand a very very good chance. I got in with less than a year's RN experience and no L&D and with a Non-BSN bachelors. I had experience as a birth assistant but that's it. I think this is a good time to apply as their application numbers have gone down due to Covid and they now have rolling admissions. There are more than a few in my class who don't have L&D experience.

My experience was the same sadly. I'm in NJ too Graduated top of my class (ADN though), lots of life experience and a great resume and could not get an interview anywhere let alone L&D. I am also in my 40's and had lots of birth experience but no nursing experience and no one would even consider me. I didn't get anywhere. I even found l&d nursing directors' email addresses and contacted them directly. Finally a professor recommended me at his hospital and I got my first interview and got the job on the spot in a Telemetry unit. Of course a few months later the *** hit the fan and they were desperate for nurses everywhere but I felt I needed to stick with the only place that had given me a chance for at least a year. It is definitely different in different parts of the country and Nj can be tough. good luck with your course. I am about to start at Frontier.

Me! I’ve been working towards this since deciding to become a MW about 4 years ago. I don’t think my chances are high as I won’t have a full year as an RN and I don’t have a BSN so did the portfolio. I’m not sure if my essays are strong enough. It’s nerve wracking!

Hi Allison, Thamks so much for your reply. I really like the look of the ajefferson program but I’m concerned now it’s not an MSN which could limit job opportunities (hospitals tend to want an MSN!). I wonder if there are good and average students in every program, which is pretty much what you said. Hoping it wasn’t because she’s an older student as I’m one too ?

I know this thread is old but I’ve been looking for some feedback from Jefferson students too. Allison, did your friends enjoy the program? Would they recommend it? Has anyone else gone through the program or heard from anyone who has?

I don't believe we are supposed to give answers if this is your school work. So think about how much you have to give in total (in mL's) for that 1gm of medication. Then you are given how many hours you have to infuse that over. So work our the hourly rate (ml/hr) by dividing the total number of mL's you need to give by the number of hours (literally ml/hr).

I think you completely misunderstood what Marianna was saying in her post. She is saying (as LibraSun also pointed out), that it has been her experience that physiological birth is not respected in the hospital she was at. And that as an RN she has no control over changing how laboring women are managed and cared for. Therefore, she sees no benefit to working as an RN in L&D as she would not gain any relevant experience. I can attest that this is absolutely true in some locations and hospitals. Marianna didn't say anything about only wanting good outcomes or happy situations. I don't really understood how you reached that conclusion or why you continue to double down on a lack of comprehension of the post you are commenting on.

Hello! I am an older new RN too. I specifically got my RN as I want to become a CNM. I have an ADN and after 3 months of looking I finally got a job in a hospital to get some experience as an RN. I could not get into L&D though (I"m in NJ) and I have almost 3 years experience as a midwife assistant (which at one hospital might have worked against me). It is really tough in my area to get into L&D with no RN experience if you haven't already been working in the hospital as a tech. The good news is that there are CNM programs that will take you with a bachelors and no BSN. Frontier has an option to apply with a previous bachelors and a "portfolio" of previous experience that might be beneficial. I don't know if they rank these applications lower, I'm waiting to speak to someone there to find out how they consider those without a BSN. Jefferson University also doesn't require a BSN only a bachelors. I attended their online info session and was really impressed with the instructors (one had been at UPenn for years before moving to Jefferson recently). I don't know about any others at the moment but I'm still looking! Good luck. How did the board go? Any update on a job?

So this really confuses me and I admit that I am a foreigner, so that may be why ? So here's my question: I could do a whole BSN at a school or just take 30 credits, the other credits would come from my ADN. But are you saying they will only look at the GPA from the 30 credits I took to get my BSN and won't look at my ADN?

I have no idea as to what thread you are referencing, the one about the legality of refusing a male nurse or another one? However, i think the phrase " hysteria level emotive* phrase is telling. I am assuming you and cowboy are both men? Beyond that I honestly can't follow much if anything of your post. Each of your paragraphs is a single run on sentence that even an expert in the field might struggle with, let alone student nurses.

For those who were accepted where did you get your BSN? Im in an ADN program at the moment and wondering if an online 1 year BSN will be good enough. It will take me an extra year or two to get my BSN from Rutgers. TIA

I agree that you should definitely pursue getting those Ws. I got a late w (years after the fact) with very little documentation. As others have said it wasn't up to the professors but a specific department that deals with this. I went through our registration department. Given all your documentation I think there's a very strong chance you can change your Fs to Ws.

Can I ask why you are high risk? I think you will probably be fine with both classes but obviously you know yourself best. I think it would be nice to have something to keep you busy whilst you wait out those early weeks waiting for the baby to start moving and to start showing etc. (I always find the early weeks drag on the longest :) ). A&P is very doable as long as you give yourself time to learn it all.

I'm really disturbed by all the "can't believe you're playing the race card comments". That's just ignorance. Until we (white people) can listen and try to understand what black people have been through and what their daily experiences are of racism and bias we can't improve the situation. Yes it sounds like there are other issues but that doesn't invalidate any discrimination that she feels she has experienced. I don't consider myself racist as I'm sure most of us don't, but that doesn't mean I'm not part of the problem. We need to do better.

Hi. Welcome to the US. I'm from Birmingham originally and moved to the US 15 years ago (NJ). I completely understand how confusing it can all be. I'm not sure about the answer to your question as I'm going for an associates degree which I start after the pre-requisites are done. My advice is to talk to someone in admissions at the schools you are interested in. They are usually really helpful and that's the main way I figured everything out. Also you might need to get your high school results converted into American. I'm assuming you have A-levels? If that's the highest education you have there are companies that can work out the equivalent of your A-levels to the American system so that you can get in. The most respected one is WES. I'm not sure what the admissions requirements are for a 4 year uni here so not sure if this is something you will definitely need to do or not.

You get points for the 4 sciences: A=30 B=20 C=10 I'm not sure about +'s and -'s Then the 2 English classes have half the value A=15 etc You also need a gpa of at least 2.5 but they only look at the points for the 4 sciences and 2 English. They add up all the points and rank the students high to low and they go down the list offering people a place until they are filled up. Hope that helps. Oh and if you have a previous degree they will also give points for that

I actually studied how to study for A&P before I started as I was so intimidated. I found some great advice on these message boards and lots more stuff online and youtube.
