Problems with the staff

I would approach the manager and ask what the duties of the LPN 's are, and tell her of your problem. Tell her in a nice way, that this is having a "negative impact" on your plans to continue employment there. Start thinking of other places you may want to work. Always look out for yourself.

sounds like they are testing you!! yikes! everytime there is someone "new" seems like they are the ones singled out. it sounds petty, but these types of things have such huge impact on how, we as nurses, carry our load too! sounds like you have talked to the other nurses, and more than just you are having the same problem. i would talk to the charge nurse/unit manager and see how they can help. i have been tested too as a new nurse by the techs. but i just let it roll of my shoulders. for example: i asked a tech to help me get a pt up to the bedside, and post-poop, she was like here nursie, handed me the wipes and she helped the pt up., i said oh, it doesnt matter wiped and left with a smile. positive thinking to keep from exploding: would rather wipe poop for 15 seconds than nurse a tired back for 15 yrs. k! but i think it was my response, i didn't get mad. she has been ok since. so keep your chin up, sounds like high school again, and look you made it through that! :rotfl: good luck! and let us know what you decided to do! ang

It does sound like they are testing you-and it sounds like you act in a very professional way. Most hospitals/facilities have very clear job descriptions, and you should check what those are for these LPNs-you will arm yourself with the knowledge of what they should be doing; I would sincerely recommend that you FIRST try and resolve it yourself by your continued professional behavior and not taking no from them. Keep smiling, but don't let them intimidate you-you are not there to be their friend-and it is their choice to act poorly, so don't tolerate it. If you go to the manager first, and they find out about it, it might make things worse, since they may perceive that you can't handle things without "running" to management. I f you do choose to talk with your manager, You could do it without accusing these LPNs of anything by saying something like "I just want to make sure that I know what their roles are on this unit" or "Sometimes they seem upset when I ask them to do something, so I just want to make sure that I am not asking them to do something outside their scope of practice"
