PRN/Per Diem options

Published

Help! I have 2.5 year of RN experience, and I am currently working PRN on an orthopedic floor. I know that as PRN I am the first to float or get cancelled, but this month I have been cancelled or put on call more than I have worked! I must be PRN status because I have to make my schedule around my husband schedule, since we don't use childcare; and my husband works every single weekend and holiday, so I'm unable to work those. According to my employer PRN is PRN any and everywhere. But I need to find somewhere that I can get my hours. Me not working when I'm scheduled is really beginning to put a strain on my marriage.

What are my options? I don't know if I should just look for another PRN position at another hospital; or if I'll just run into the same problem there. If I should work agency PRN would give me a better chance of getting my hours in, or if a doctors office would hire a PRN RN?

Any advice would really be appreciated. Thanks!
