Private School Grants, where?

Hi,

I attend Seton Hall and I do not have any scholarships to help with my tuition. Right now I have a 90K debt only because I took out an extra 30K to live off of. I am married and have two children. At the time, my husband was not working so I had to bring in money some way. I will be paying it all back once I start working. In NJ, they do have loan payback programs where the hosptials in the Atlantic health systems will pay back a certain amount of your tuition if you work for them for a certain amount of time. I think the highest they pay is 20K towards your tuition. It depends on when you apply and how much money there is in the hospital's budget. I missed the deadline so I could not apply. There is a deadline but on the website and brochure it does not state this. I think 20K is better than nothing. Since I am a second degree student I did not qualify for any grants at all. I only received the federal loans and took out a private loan for the rest.

I know this may not be the best for some people, but I thought it was the best and I will be done in Oct. of this year so I will be working soon and start paying back this hefty loan. I know I can do it because the starting salaries in NY are good. I don't have alot of debt so I can just focus on paying off the loan.

Thank You so much for that info. Everything helps. I'm planning on moving to Charlotte NC, soon when I finish. I'm going to inquire at there hospitals do they have (pay back programs). If not I'll stay here another year or so if I have to and apply for a hospital in NJ or whoever have it. I'm not going to make any money this year so I'm going to apply for every nursing grant I could apply for. I just heard there is a program that they'll pay your entire tuition, books, equipment, etc. You'll have to work at a under priveledge Hospital, but allow you to select the hospital. I'm going to apply in January for this grant right away.

I understand what you had to do. I would of did the same thing. Living expenses in New York is very expensive. Two months left and your DONE. I can't wait to get to that point.

Oh, I know the grant you are talking about. It is where the state pays your tuition, books, uniform etc... and you have to give back 2 or 3 yrs in an underserved hospital or clinic. Here is the info if you don't already know it.

The deadline passed but you can apply next year. You have to show that you are in need financially and at the time I could not apply for this one either because my husband was working at that time. Oh well. Hope you can apply for this one. Check it out.

I attend NYU and not receiving any grants or scholarship from the school. I have high gpa when I applied but doesn't qualify for anything. Well, my education still goes on, so I applied for financial aid and received federal loans and nursing loan from NYU. My loans cover half of my tuition and the rest comes from my personal saving, working part-time and very generous family members (loan). Somehow, I survived three semester already. I'm lucky I don't have to worry about living expenses b/c my hubby works and supports me.

One of my classmate from school has the gov't grant you mentioned and it works out pretty well for her. The only thing she dislikes is having to work for gov't own hospitals after graduation and having to commit to them for 2-3 years contract. She said she must find the right hospital b/c if she doesn't, it would be a nightmare with no escape!

That was my only concern, what hospitals you have to work for. Because I want to move to Charlotte, North Carolina the day I'm finish with school. The plus side is that after 3 years the loan is guaranteed to be finish. Sometime we can linger on and pay the minimum of the loan and it can last for years. But I thought they mention on the website that it can be any under priveledge Hospital. That will give here more of a choice. I hope I get this loan though. LIU is $21,0000 a year and NYU is about $27,000 a year. To me thats alot of money, but I want this Degree even if I have to take out a loan. Its worth it.
