I am an experienced RN in a different specialty, however in general, I'd like to hear your opinions on whether you think a RN position at a private pediatric outpatient clinic for 1-2 doctors, or working in a well-known hospital's pediatric EEG lab would be less stressful? I assume both places would be very busy, however if anyone has any info regarding this, I'd really appreciate it. I was offered a position at both jobs and am not sure which one to go with. Both would be Mon-Fri with flexible hours during the day and no weekends. Of course, I am also taking into consideration salary/benefits which are pretty comparable with both jobs.

I've been in Pedi primary care for 9 years now & I absolutely love it. Working in primary care you're able to build relationships with patients and families. There is stress at times but nothing like the hospital. EEG might be a little less stressful but very redundant. Primary care different things all day long. You do have to give shots (depending what you are doing) and that may be stressful at first. Hope this helps :o

I would imagine an EEG lab in a hospital would be more stressful. In the EEG lab you will be placing probes on the children. Have you ever had to place 30 different electrodes on the head of a screaming and kicking two year old? I've witnessed it, and it's not easy. Not only that, but they are constantly tugging at them, taking them off, needing readjustment, etc. These kids often have known seizure disorders and may have tonic/clonic seizures while in your unit.

In primary care, the kids are healthy in general, with some acute illnesses and only occasionally more serious problems. It get's very busy, but acuity-wise, you'll be more stressed at the hospital.
