I have taken all of these except US History 2. I just finished the 8 week US History 1 and would not recommend taking this class with any other classes. There is a lot of writing in this class and you are basically on thier timeline with very little wiggle room. There are a total of 15 topics and you cover 2 topics per week. The first topic of the week opens on Sunday and closes on Wednesday. The second topic opens on Wednesday and closes on Saturday. Each topic has a discussion and quiz that is due by the time the topic closes. In between these you have map exercises, document worksheets, a power point project, a group wiki project, and a final essay. All these things open and close on their timeline so there is no working ahead. I often found myself waiting for something to open on my days off and then playing catchup to get it done on the days I worked. Very Frustrating Class. I work nights 84 hours per pay period so I had no social life during this class. Work, sleep, and study.
I took State & Local Gov right before US History 1. There were 5 exams, 10 discussions, a powerpoint presentation, and a research and application paper. You could work ahead on all of these and get the class done early if you wanted. I finished the class early and still had a life outside of school and work.
The other 2 classes I took when they were still 5 week classes so I can't be much help with those.
I am only taking one class at a time because I want to have time for family and friends. I also want to get something out of the classes I take and not just scrape by. I am taking all my general ed classes first and then the nursing classes. My last general ed class is Art Appreciation starting June 4, then I will take Nursing A & B with the August 13 start date.
It really depends on the course, some you can double up and some you can't. There is a lot of busy work involved and deadlines you have to meet. If you have a job, family, and other obligations, it might be hard to get enough time to complete the work. I only have work to contend with, so I powered though all my prereqs and maintained a nice gpa.
Another thing to consider, there are a lot of high gpa people applying, so be careful in balancing your class load and maintaining a high average.
I have to take American Literature, US History 1 & 2, State & local govt, & developmental psych. Can anyone tell me about the course load in these classes? I have been taking classes one at a time but I would like to start taking two at a time if possible.
Did you start your prereqs yet? I'm just getting started and expect to begin in August. would appreciate your knowledge.
Well, I ended up taking Federal Government over the summer and postponed US History until this semester. I'm also in week 1/2. So far so good. It is a lot of work but I find that working on it daily makes it manageable. Not sure how I'm really doing though, as the first test isn't until next week :)
