Pregnant Nurse Caring for a CMV (CYTOMEGALOVIRUS) patient

Published

The client is diagnosed with cytomegalovirus. The nurse learns that a staff member providing care to this client is in early pregnancy. Which is the best action for the nurse to take?

The RN is in early pregnancy (if that makes a difference). My first thought was to reassign the client to other patients because CMV is among TOURCH which should not be cared for by a pregnant Nurse. But Kaplan said that reassignment is unnecessary and to just "ensure that the staff member follows standard precautions"... The rationale is "make pregnant RN aware of the risks; use standard precautions, do not reassign"

For NCLEX what should be the right option?????
