IF she is getting "snappy and mean" when busy, maybe she'd be glad to no longer have to precept. Maybe she really doesn't like it all that much? Was she forced to precept or did she volunteer? Has she done it before?
If she asks, say that you wanted to benefit from observing the way several nurses do things, adn not just one. Likely will be she wont ask, though.

I'm new here, so hello to everyone, I am already hooked, there is so much info and I love the support that everyone gives eachother.
So i am hoping for some guideance, my preceptor is a wonderful teacher UNTIL, she starts getting busy or stressed out, then she becomes snappy and mean.
I have been trying to cope with her mood swings for a few months now and finally just can not take anymore. I can only imagine the stress of being a preceptor, but I am stressed too. i am a new nurse in a really challenging unit. The second GN to be hired right out of nursing school, the first did not work out.
I spoke with my manager today and told her to please change my preceptor, because I feel so confused, I respect her and enjoy how she teaches me but when she flips I feel so frustrated. I am afraid that when she finds out I need to be with someone else I am going to feel the wrath.
So either way I lose...
Please any advice will help
