I got my preceptor one of those willow tree angels that said thank you, a key chain with her initial and several bic 4-color pens (she loved them!!).
For other clinical instructors we (as a group) had done coffee mug, gift card for Starbucks/dunkies, candy, a build a bear dressed in scrubs, a Vera Bradley wristlet, and a charm bracelet with nursing charms..
My last 3 precepting students gave me 1) an expensive baby outfit and stuffed animal (I was 37 weeks pregnant when she finished) 2) gift certificate to a nice restaurant and 3) gift certificate for a pedicure. Loved all three gifts, and loved "my girls." Precepting a student is a gift in itself, but I appreciated the thoughtfulness. I sent them on their way with a promise of a good reference any time and things like monogrammed clip boards, monogrammed pens, nice hand cream, and compression hose (a running joke with one of them).
All 3 of them also brought something for the whole unit, like cupcakes or doughnuts, and boy did that earn them some good will!

I am in my final weeks of nursing school (thank God), and I would like to get my awesome preceptor a decent gift. I cannot think of a single thing to get her. Have any of you precepted a student, and if so, what kind of gifts would you recommend?
Thanks
