AZ Pre-nursing student - beginning of uphill journey... Any suggestions

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Specializes in BSN Class of May 2013.

I'm a 30 yr old single mother of 3 boys (7, 5, & 2.5) actually finishing up my computer information systems degree (just 1 math class left) while working on pre/corequisites for the nursing program. Maxed on associate level financial aid - well, I "THINK" so anyways... My community college doesn't always seem to know what they are doing or WHY even... I have been a SAHM for 7 years and a student for the last 2-3.

So, I'm getting closer to being able to apply for a nursing program - also thinking of moving out of this "town" and to a real "city" in the Phoenix area. My main concerns are: childcare or lack thereof, no financial aid, and no real support system. Hence the title "beginning of an uphill journey."

I know entering a nursing program, you have to inhale and exhale the mantra: "I WILL do this - NO MATTER WHAT!" I think I am feeling more driven and motivated toward that the closer that I get... I just can't shake that feeling of "how the hell am I going to actually do this???" I love to learn, study, am passionate. I just don't know how to make sure the kids are taken care of w/out daycare...

From what info I have been able to gather, I can only get daycare assistance if I work an additional 24 hours a week on top of my school schedule... I guess my main inhibition is I'm not ready to NEVER SEE MY KIDS for 2 yrs... Is it really that black and white??? I just can't imagine going to school while they are and then working at night when I should be helping w/homework and cooking dinner... How do you manage only seeing your children when you wake them up to drop them off at school and pick them up from daycare to go to sleep?

Any suggestions? Anyone in the same boat? Anyone already got though school w/the same circumstances? I'm fishing for some HOPE here.....
