6 weeks to go

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have six weeks before my nursing program begins. I am so excited to begine, friends and family member are sick of my over thrilled count down Im sure :) However, I am saddened by the so many people on this board and other boards that start threads by saying things like, don't go to nursing school because you wont get a job, the nursing ship has sailed, or any of the other negitive things people say to try to suppress our excitment. This is my dream come true, this is for me, this is so my daughter can maybe grow up and say I want to be just like my mom, the nurse rather than the cashier at the gas station. I have waited this long to be accepted into a program that selected 63 students out of 1000, I can wait as long as it takes for jobs to open up. You can only take out of life what you put in, well I plan to put in all Im made of and take out all Im worth. Please don't let people who say you will never find a job bring you down, if you all were willing to fight to get into your programs then you know what your made of, and you know what you have to do to get a job afterwards. Good luck to all starting school this fall and congrats for making it this far :)

I agree with you 100% ! I read the thread I believe you are referring to and was thinking to myself hmmm? No point? really? Maybe the original poster doesn't undertand exactly what it means to be a nurse or the huge variety there actually is in the job market for someone with an RN degree. A degree no matter what degree is never useless.

Good luck to you and keep that positive attitude!

I truly believe that if you REALLY want something, then nothing is impossible. DCoffill, it sounds like your heart is in the right place and CONGRATULATIONS on your acceptance! Don't let the naysayers get you down! Yes, nursing school will be crazy, and getting a job as a new-grad nurse may be just as tough, but always remember your dream and the REASON behind that dream (yourself, your daughter, your future). :redpinkhe

Good luck in school, I wish you the best! :clown:

It sounds as if you really want this, and that's the only thing that matters! Ignore the naysayers. I'm glad I wasn't on this board when I started my program, or I would be freaked out. Relax, it is NOT as bad as it sounds. To me, many of these people are WHINERS. I have 3 semesters left and have NO regrets. Nursing school has been the hardest thing I've ever done but it made me realize that hard work and determination will get you places. Congrats on your acceptance and enjoy your last 6 weeks of freedom because you will be a busy bee!

I've said a few choice words in those threads aimed to discourage pre-nursing students and current nursing students. When the time comes, I plan to resurrect some of those "discouraging" threads by posting how I was blessed with a job as a new grad.

Now, Congratulations on your acceptance. I can't wait to graduate from the Pre-nursing student forum and enter into the Nursing forum myself. It will be such a great accomplishment when you look back where you were and where you are now. And yes, you will be a great inspiration for your daughter.

I agree! I am fighting tooth and nail to get into a program, and if I can get in I will continue to do the same when I get out! But honestly, I know it is frustrating to people who are looking for jobs and can't find them, but this is true of every job!! My sister has an advanced degree in educaation and has been looking for a teaching job for almost three years now :( It is very frustrating--but it just proves it is not just Nursing that's not hirirng! Don't give up your dreams for fear of not obtaining a job! No one can predict that for us! So lets all press on and be passionate and excited for school!!
