Pre-nursing school fitness

Published

Heyyy all you future nursing students! I am aiming to lose about 15 pounds before nursing school starts in the fall. I am trying to hit a healthy 125-130 before the fall semester starts so that I don't have to worry so much about weight gain when the craziness starts. Gotta lose those winter lbs anyway! Anyone want to be my diet buddy? Who else wants to get in shape before school starts? Let me know :)

While I won't be your diet buddy, remember you need to be careful about your diet. Ensure you're getting good nutrition and watch the calories. You don't have to starve yourself. Exercise is a good way to lose weight, and more importantly, the right kind of weight. What you're really going to look for is loss of size rather than weight anyway. One of the most "fit" women I ever met was about 30 lbs over "ideal weight" for her size because she was all muscle, but she looked GOOD because she wasn't bulky. Women can't bulk up seriously without resorting to steroids. What burns a lot of calories? Muscle! Don't be afraid of lifting weights.

Then while you're actually going to school, you want to keep your calorie intake near maintenance levels during classroom days and bump it up just a little on clinical days. Adjust your intake for your activity level. It's hard to do but with some pre-planning, you'll do just fine.
