PRE-NURSING SCHOOL ADVICE

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Finally going back to school this fall to finish working on my bachelors in biomedical sciences, I was set to graduate in December of 2017 but due to some unfortunate events I had to drop out my last semester and hold off for 3 years to return. Throughout my whole college career I had to deal with hopping from place to place for shelter and had to work extensive hours to pay for schooling and basic life necessities. Because of this my grades were compromised and now I'm embarrassed to say I'm sitting right at a 2.49 GPA overall and a 2.89 science GPA. I was fortunate to be able to land a job at my local hospital and now have 3 years of direct patient care experience under my belt. I am now at a point in my life where I am stable and can finally continue on with my education. I'm planning on retaking 2 classes and 2 other classes needed as a prereq for the nursing program I'm applying to. I don't believe with my GPA I would be competitive enough to be accepted into a ABSN program so I'm opting for an ADN program at a local community college. I'm hoping by retaking the courses it will make a bit of a difference. I will be taking my TEAS at the end of the month and feel good about it but still nervous about where I stand and if I even stand a chance. I'm probably thinking way ahead of myself since I haven't even reached the first milestone, but after finishing my ADN I was thinking about looking into the RN-MSN route. Does anyone have any advice to give? I'm located in TX.

Thank you in advance....

Hey! I am in the same path as you with a lower bachelor's GPA but good science GPA! In my opinion it is much better to attend an ADN program since they only look at pre-req GPA and it is much cheaper! I am also pursuing a ADN-MSN program after, I just applied for an ADN program and so nervous! Good luck!

I would attempt to reach out to the college and see what they advise in regards to GPA boosting. I’m currently in a advanced standing lpn to RN transition program. My GPA was right around 2.89 getting in. The college looks at test scores and overall admission interview and what. Not . But keep pushing and don’t give up!! In time grades will improve!
