Hey all,
My SO and I are looking at making a move to the Richmond, VA area in about a year, and I'm a big planner so I've just been browsing around to see what sort of positions are out there. I am currently working on a Mom/Baby unit, a semi-recent switch, and I will have 18 months of experience in it by the time we move (I worked in tele and ICU step-down for 3.5 years before this). I don't really want to back out of the women's health realm now that I'm in. ?
My big concern is that there don't seem to be any mom/baby positions in the Richmond area! I currently work for an HCA hospital, and will definitely be going to HR a few months before the intended move to see if they can connect me with an affiliated hospital, but I just want to get a feel from people working in the area. I know that at my current and previous facilities, staff was always needed, but they posted positions at intervals throughout the year when the FTEs were approved, so maybe I'm just checking at the wrong time?
I would also be happy to expand and work in either L&D or NICU, as I do have a background in more critical care, but I don't know how flexible hospitals in the area are with cross-training or taking on people without direct experience. In my city, L&D requires specialty internships, and NICU is hard to get into without experience, but I realize it may not be that way everywhere.
Let me know, Richmond friends! (can't wait to join you out there, sick of my current state)
