Hi! My name is Renee and I am a LPN student. I know Florida Hospitals do not hire LPN's for Labor and Delivery, but i'm also interested in either Ante or Post Partum Care. I'll be doing an LPN-RN Track next year and what to become a Labor and Deliver Nurse and fulfill my ultimate dream. can some of you that are Ante or Post Partum Nurses tell me what your duties are? Likes and dislikes? how soon you became that type of nurse? thank you so much!!!!

My hospital runs a high risk Antepartum unit. I don't know how its done at other places but at my hospital this unit is run by L&D nurses. We take care of mom's that are too sick to be on postpartum basically. Everything from PIH workups to preterm labor on Mag Sulfate, etc. I don't know the nursing laws in Florida but in my state LPNs are not allowed to do assessments. Patients on this unit typically require alot of assessment skills. It may be different where you live though.
