Possible Relocation to South Texas

Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions to ask all you Texan Nurses. Me & my family are hoping to relocate to Texas in the next 18 months. My Husband would like to relocate to Corpus Christi. Is there any other area around there we need to check out aswell? We are planning to spend some time there at the beginning of next year to see what we think of areas.

My other questions are:

1. Are schools good in Corpus Christie or anywhere else in that area?

2. Is the housing reasonably priced?

3. Where are the good hospitals (I would like to work in Rehab or Orthopedics)

4. What are the wages like for someone with 17 years experience as a Nurse? (just a rough idea will do)

I am sure there will be more questions - I am just at the researching stage at the moment! Any good websites I can be looking at?

Thanks to all that reply....

sue, the answers to some of your questions depend on where you are moving from. It's true when they say texas is a big state. Corpus is fine if you like the coastal area. Don't try to compare it to the california beaches; you will be dissapointed. Housing is not too expensive. The only hospital system that i'm aware of is Spohn which is owned by the same group that I work for. I've been to one of the hospitals. It seem decent and the system is pretty much like others out there. http://www.christushealth.org/ You might consider looking around San Antonio. Jobs are more plentiful. Pay is about the same and maybe a little higher. (27-32.00hr) i would estimate. it is still only about 3hrs from the coast. you may also consider the texas hillcountry which is just north of san antonio. Kerrville, fredericksburg, blanco, bandera. A little cooler, and most say prettier than the southern part of the state. Dallas/fort worth and Houston are big metropolitan areas. Start looking and give it a try. Texas is a great place to be as far as im concerned. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/ this site will give you pics and history on different parts of the state.

Thanks for the info - that has been really helpful. I will be moving from Florida who are well known for low wages....(but they are a lot better than the UK which is where I am from originally!)

Check out Austin. If i had to do it all over again, that would be my pick.
