I have been a telemetry nurse for the past 20 months and I want to start traveling for the first time. Being a telemetry nurse, am I qualified to apply for med-surg positions as well? I have floated to med-surg units frequently and my unit sometimes gets med-surg patients. I'm also concerned about finding a telemetry position because it looks like the hospitals require 2 years experience.
I'm hoping someone can give me a better perspective on this. :)

Start talking with recuiters. Get a skills check list and fill it out. Be honest, if you don't know what something is on the list don't pretend to. Some of the stuff listed is no longer current practice, at least not where I work. How often are you stressed at work? How do you react to changes? Can you ask for assistance when you are unsure of the situation? No one can tell you if you are ready to travel or have the experience to do it you have to decide. If there are local staffing agencies in your area, take a couple of shifts and see what it's like to be the new person on the floor. Travel assignments are better because you are at the same facility for a couple months but the first day on the floor is almost always the same. If you can make it through the first day it only gets better.
