hi, my name is nam pham. currently in my first semester at sac. state. for one of our project, we have to do a cultural presentation. my group members decided to do a project on polynesian/pacific islander. we would be presenthing this information to our fellow future nurses so that we all can become culturally competent nurses.

what i am asking (begging) if you can help us answer some question (below) regarding your beliefs or your cultural beliefs on specific issues.

what are your beliefs on birth control? what forms are most used?

how do you feel about abortion?

what are your values/beliefs in dealing with end of life issues such as autopsy and organ donation?

what is your belief in dealing with suicide? how are people treated who choose this path?

what types of common folk or traditional remedies are used in your culture?

do you believe in going to a hospital or clinic to get care or is the use of a natural healer in your community?

does your culture encourage exercise as a means of prevention?

does your culture incorporate fiber and other nutrients into daily diet to encourage bowel health?

what types of illnesses and health problems are prominent in your culture?

when a person has these illnesses how are they treated?

what types of verbal communication is preferred by your culture? are they any special perspectives you would want the medical staff to be aware of?

what types of nonverbal communication is used/preferred by your culture? what things are appropriate or not appropriate to do?
