Polk State College students. Quick question..

Published

Does Intro to Nursing have to be completed BEFORE applying to the nursing program? Or can I apply to the program and then take Intro to Nursing while waiting for acceptance?

Thanks in advance for your time!

Just giving a bump. If anyone knows, I'd appreciate your help! Thanks. :)

I think it's either/or...all it says for pre-reqs for that course is BSC2086C and minimum acceptable score on the nursing admissions test. I know when I was in the program, students were taking Intro while waiting for acceptance...but didn't get accepted :-/

That's what I worry about..someone else getting accepted who has all of the courses done before they even apply. I will have all of the other classes done at that point, including microbiology and human development..all but this Intro to Nursing. Bummer...I hate to lose 6 months over just one class.

Thanks for you reply!

I wouldn't see it as a loss - you have to take it either way (unless you're a LPN). I just can't believe how much the requirements have changed and I just graduated in December 2010!

Well, I talked to an adviser today. Figured I'd update here in case someone with the same question happened upon this post.

You can apply to the core program at any time, but if the classes are not completed, you don't get points for them. She said I could still get accepted without it if I still end up with more points than someone else. I would just have to complete it before nursing core starts.

So all of this means that next summer, I can apply for the Jan 2013 term, and while waiting for an acceptance or not, I will take Intro to Nursing in the fall and be done before the program starts. If I don't get accepted for that session, I'll just try again the following session. I couldn't take Intro to Nursing any sooner than that anyway with all of the other classes that I need first so all I can do is try for the Jan 2013 term.

Anyway... thanks again for your responses!
