polk county/west fl/peds

There are 2 job offers out there for my boyfriend. One in Miami, one in Polk county. I know I'm not going to get paid great in either but we are leaning towards the west coast. I specialize in peds and I know of All children's and St. Joes, both are supposed to be great hospitals. Any advice on where to avoid as far as working and or living in near Polk? A few places that come up on realtor.com are Ruskin, Parrish, bartlow, Winter haven.

I have family in Venice, but that's too far to travel to work. We dont' have to live in polk county but would like to be an hour from there and where I will have to work.

Ruskin and Parrish are both a pretty good commute to Polk too. Lakeland and winter haven are the two bigger towns here. Depends on what you like. Lake wales, fort Meade, bartow, babson park all are nice places for quiet pieces of property. Lakeland, winter haven, Haines city, north bartow are busier, more city-like. Id cross haines city off the list, actually. Not really pleasant. If it is lakeland regional, Hillsborough county is not a far commute.

thank you so much for your reply. i've heard nothing but bad things about Winter haven so far, and everyone seems to say Lakeland is the place to be. NYC is so busy....it would be nice to live in a place where my dogs can run in the yard, and no one to complain like neighbors on top of you that you cant' even take a tan without weird people peering down on you- sounds crazy but very cramped here. Traffic everywhere as well. I really loved Bradenton when I was there- too bad it's too far away but a town like that would be great.

Bradenton is busier than anywhere in Polk. :) Lakeland is worse than winter haven in my opinion. More to do, but more people, too. If you're coming from NYC, any town here is going to seem spacious. We dont any high-rises. Even the apartments are only about 3 stories tall. The subdivisions are usually nice and quiet. I live in lake wales. The outskirts of town are very pretty and quiet.
