PNP Military Wives! Jobs Near Duty Stations??

Published

Hi! I am currently a FNP student thinking of jumping ship to PNP. All of my clinical experience has been pedi, and my passion is 100% pedi. I initially chose FNP because my husband is active duty military and I wanted to make myself as marketable as possible. That being said, I really don't want to work with adults, and even though I know bedside nursing and primary care are night and day, I would never ever consider working in the adult world as an RN, so should I expect to be okay with it as an FNP if I couldn't get a pedi job? I have heard very mixed things about employers wanting to hire FNPs vs PNPs for exclusively pedi practices, and while being well rounded makes sense, it also makes sense that an exclusively pedi practice would want a PNP OVER and FNP, right?? I also know that in family practices, depending on the practice and your area, you are most likely NOT going to get that much pedi. I want a majority of pedi if not exclusively pedi, even if I were to finish as an FNP. I desperately want to do PNP and as of right now I never want to work with adults, and would primarily apply for pedi jobs when I graduate, but the plethora of FNP jobs over PNP (there are some but not as many as FNP) is a little scary.

So, this is my question to you ladies (and I guess guys if your husband or wife is an active duty service member) ... I see that there are more FNP jobs around the big Naval duty stations, but I also see that there ARE some PNP jobs, as well. What have your experiences been getting jobs? I really want to know about PNP but if you're an FNP that would be good to hear about, too.

THANKS!
