hi ,

mu husband was taken by ambulance to hospital 2 weeks ago with shortness of breath.

that night he was put onto life support as his body couldnt breath and his o2 levels were at 81%. they told me i probably wasnt going to take him home ever again. to expect the worse and hope for the best.

he is a diabetic , was a heavy smoker until that day ,

has high blood pressure ,

is on high pain meds ... oxyconton 80mg twice a day for pain managemnet and tops up with endone thru the day.

the doctors say he is ' metabolic syndrome ' everything that can go wrong has gone wrong.

anyway , he was on life support for 8 days , in a ward for 6 and then sent home ( thank god )

he has been home a week today and is still so tired , lathargic , no go , sleeps heaps , loss of appetite , sore throut still from incubate tube i think .

but he is just not himself in so many ways .

Is this normal behavier after ICU for 8 days or should i be more concerned and take him back to gp ??

i really dont know whatto expect on any given day .

cheers

Lisa

I don't know. I spent more the twenty days in ICU and was discharged to a rehab unit. I was tired, very tired but rehab didn't allow me to sleep. I don't know his level of activity prior to his hospitalization. He needs encouragement to increase his activity. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.
