Please I need some advice on Fresno State's Nursing Program

Published

I am currently a student at FCC taking the pre reqs for fresno state's nursing program. I have currently applied to transfer to state in the fall and awaiting my admission status. I most likely will not be able to apply to the nursing program until the following year. Anyways my question is this, does anyone know of individuals getting into the program whose pre req. gpa was not that high. Or is it true and only individuals with nearly perfect 4.0 pre req gpa get in? I heard of someone with a 3.5 pre req gpa that got in but she got a 95% on the TEAS test. So does that placement test really have impact on the decision?? I just want to know if there is hope for me. I'm getting so discouraged. I just don't know what to do. :(

Why not just go to the information sessions directly and ask the professors, coordinators, students there directly? No school has the same requirement. That said, I always tell people to apply to every program possible and make a decision later. Same goes for job opportunities. Other wise its a waste of time holding out and waiting for school and work near "home." But really, I would concentrate on school more and do some investigating talking to real people. These boards can cause more anxiety then help folks sometimes.

Is the plan to transfer as a general lower-division student to finish prereqs and then apply to the nursing program? What happens if you transfer and then aren't accepted into nursing? It would be wise to contact a Fresno State nursing adviser to find out how much weight is given to GPA and TEAS scores and what the stats were for the most recently admitted class. But I would seriously consider finishing all of the nursing prereqs at your current school and then applying to several different BSN programs since CSU nursing programs are becoming increasingly competitive.

I do not know anyone whose gpa is lower than a 3.7 that got into Fresno State's nursing program; however, if you're lucky with a 3.5 or 3.6 and did well on the Teas, you might get a chance at it. But to be honest, I think it really depends on the director. If your gpa is low and scored high on the Teas vice versa, you will get evetually get in. I heard Penny no longer is the director there. I do not know who the new director is, but hopefully he/she is a great one. Good luck!
