Please Help me on HESI Enterance Exam!

Published

I took my HESI exam and Failed for the first time. I have to retake it this coming Saturday. My worst subjects are reading and Vocabulary. I got the study guide and study it. I know the math section is exactly the same in the study and grammar is the same, but the vocabulary is like nothing like the study guide. How can I study or prepare for the vocabulary section? Can anyone help me out on this subject please. As for the reading, I think reading from the actual exam is harder than the one from the study guide. Please help me on these two subject. This is my last shot for this semester. I really want to get start in January. Please help me. Any advises will appreciate! Thank You!

What issue were you having with the Reading part? And what made the Vocabulary section so hard?

Addison Lawrence03,

i believe there are four parts that they divide in the reading test. word context, understanding, implication, and something else. I think words context is one of my worst score on. I think I only got 44% or something. How would I improve my reading score? I think the questions are kind of tricky to me. As for the vocabulary, some of the words are not same in the study guide and I believe is general knowledge, they ask something in the medical field like doctor and nurses use and I feel like I'm not in the program yet, how would I know? how can I prepare for this section? Thank you for your reply.

Will the students who pass give tips on how to pass the Reading, Vocab, and grammar? I'm sure somebody knows something??

Hello Addison,

well it looks like only you reply my post. Thank you for taking your time to reply my post. I'm really appreciate for your time. I think I just find something online for more practices on those areas. BTW, I'm from Arizona, where are you from? well nice to talk to you Addison. Take care and have a great day!

I'm from Michigan. I am going to be taking the Hesi to try at other schools just like you are. I am still waiting for my Hesi book to arrive. You can PM me if you want. I plan on taking it this month for a few schools.

For the vocabulary section, was there a lot of health terms that were not in the study guide?

I need to take the TEAS exam to get into nursing school. I took it a few months ago and did fine on everything but the math section. Is there a way I can JUST retake the math portion and not take the entire test again?

@Addison, for the vocabulary section, there are some everyday words and I found the hard part is that they ask you some term that it require you to have some kind of knowledge from the field already. Maybe for me is hard because I'm not in the medical field yet and as for other, it maybe pretty basic, but I found nothing like in the study guide. The math is exactly the same thing that the study guide cover also for the grammar too. Good luck on urs.

@ mm03kell Good luck to you!

It depends on the school. I know at my school they do let you retake portions that you failed, while at others they make you retake the whole exam. You may have to check with your school for this

Was there a lot of conversions and dimensional analysis on the math portion?? I really don't feel like memorizing the conversion terms, I'm hoping I can get by if there are just a few on there
