Hi Everyone,

I am a new grad LPN, and can't find a job due to lack of experience. Every place I applied for a job for requires experience. Some friends of mine didn't had a problem because they were CNA's before (it seems like).

My question is: Should I apply at some local hospitals as a CNA (though I am an LPN) to gain experience? Or should I follow my husband who thinks that I should just focus on completing my RN pre-requisites and get it done ASAP so I can apply in the program that has a two year waiting list.

I would appreciate your advice.

If you can afford to go for the RN and ultimately, it's what you would like to do, I'd go for it. It's a long-term investment, but the RN market is wide open...if you can get some home-health work in the meantime- ie. a job that would allow you to get some study time in, too...that might be an option. Good luck.

Don't apply for work below your level of skill unless you are desperate for money. It looks poor on a resume and can make it difficult to step up to where you should be.

If you can possibly swing it, keep going to school until you can be hired to work at your skill level.
