Ok, to start with, this is my first post on AllNurses! Yay! :). I am a sophomore in high school, and I am 100% positive that I want to go to nursing school. My plan is to apply for the NROTC scholarship with the US Navy, so that all of my tuition can be paid for. I know its a very hard program/scholarship to get in to, so I'm trying to get As in all of my classes (homeschooled), and take as many AP courses as possible. I also volunteer. I do know that I am required to serve 4 years as a nurse in the navy after school, but I think this a bonus to the situation, since I will have a job immediately after college graduation. Plus, if I decide to leave the navy after said 4 years, I will have experience so that it will be easier to snag a job in another environment. I am planning on getting my CNA certification as soon as I am old enough, and if possible, I was hoping to work as one during school. I know the scholarship would pay for my tuition, but there's still books, room and board, food, and that sort of thing. I really don't want my parents to support me through college; if college people think they're supposed to be 'on their own', then I think they should pay for their own stuff too. Also, the CNA job would get me accustomed to working in a medical environment. just don't know if a CNA job combined with nursing school would be too much, since I know nursing school is pretty rigorous. I basically want to know everyone's thoughts on all of the above. Just let me know what you think, and feel free to tell me something is a silly idea. Thank you in advance!! :)
