PICU vs Adult ER New grad advice

Hi All,

I am a new nurse graduate in need of some advice so I turned to this forum. Hoping some seasoned and experienced nurses can offer their two cents!

I am a recent masters entry into nursing graduate who has applied to several new grad programs across California. I applied to whatever programs were available in my top two units of PICU and Adult ED. I did my preceptorship in the ED but I have always wanted to try PICU as well as I love peds and critical care. In your opinion which would be the best floor to start in and still have a chance to try the other speciality later on. Would it be easiest to start in PICU as those jobs are harder and then transition to ED or vice versa?

Also please help me rank the following options on what you think would be best for my career if I were to get into any of these! I appreciate y'all so much and so grateful for this forum. I know Stanford probably has the best and most comprehensive new grad program but it would be for the cardiovascular ICU so it might limit me in scope? UCSD is my top choice for the ED but not sure if it would be better than the other Peds choices.

Stanford Children's- PCVICU

UCSD- Adult ED

UCSF Oakland Benioff- PICU

Rady Children's- Peds ER

Hi, which did you end up choosing?
