We use 100units/ml of heparin for flushing; For PICCs first clear the line with at least 5ml of saline then flush with 2ml of heparin flush solution(100units/ml); For implanted ports, flush with 10ml saline then 5ml heparin flush solution(100units/ml). You must remember that a proper flush volume must be at least the internal volume of the device you are flushing. You don't give all the information needed. You have 5000units of heparin, but what volume??? 1ml??? if so, 2500units of heparin for a flush is an awful lot for a flush.
