Your feelings are completely understandable. I was terrified for the better part of one year as a new grad (in the ICU, no less). Almost imperceptibly, you will gain skills and confidence, and one day you will feel like you know what you're doing, and even when you don't, you no longer panic, but feel you know exactly how to get what you need. Everyone must go through this because it really is a steep learning curve. You should feel wonderful you have come this far. The rest will fall into place...promise!
One of the most terrifying days of my life was when I walked into the hospital for my first day of work as an RN. I was all alone, bereft of my two best friends from nursing school with whom I had shared everything during the last two years. I felt so small and oh, so not ready. But I did it, and you will, too. Just know that every nurse feels the exact same way. Take deep breaths, and each small step at a time.
