Hello,

Just curious, do Mental Health Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners diagnosis personality disorders? Also, if you become a MHPNP, are you able to treat children and adolescents or just adults? Are they able to prescribe stimulants to children with ADHD? I'm very interested in psychiatric nursing. Thank You.

Yes a mental health psych nurse practitioner can diagnose any mental illness. Yes they can prescribe, depending on the state they work in and the prescribing rules therein. S/he can treat depending on the program they completed. There are adult psych nurse practitioner programs (age 13 and up) and there are family psych nurse practitioner programs.
