Hi all,

I am applying to an accelerated nursing program tomorrow and I would like feedback on my personal statement:

Compassion is the source of my motivation to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I care deeply about and want to make a difference in the mental well-being of others. My mission in life is not only to relieve those who suffer from depression, anxiety, and psychotic disorders from their suffering but to help them to be functional, productive members of society. The nursing model of care appeals to me because of its emphasis on psychosocial treatment. I firmly believe in a patient-centered approach to care.

I built my communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills in college and the workplace. Having graduated from (university) with a degree in African and African Diaspora Studies on a pre-med track, I possess cultural competence and advanced scientific knowledge. My experience working as an accounting assistant for (accounting firm) endowed me with good business sense, and as I put clients first, I will put patients first. Volunteering and shadowing a physician assistant at (hospital) solidified my interest in health care. In the hospital, I realized my dream of becoming a healthcare professional.

Because I am no stranger to academic rigor, completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in an accelerated program suits me. I constantly seek to challenge myself, and I would be grateful for the opportunity to do so in your program. Furthermore, I am a lifelong learner. The opportunity to learn about nursing alone excites me. I will truly embrace the first step of my journey to a fulfilling career.

Specializes in Administration.

Absolutely beautiful. Well thought out, professional,  etc. Nursing school is very hard and time consuming. There's no doubt you'll do well. Don't get overwhelmed. Give class and clinical 150%. You'll be a nursing leader before you know it.
