Personal and academic research into nursing informatics career

Published

I am a senior nursing student in an Associate Degree of Nursing program. As part of a project that I am working on this semester, I am trying to get more information about nursing informatics, one of the areas of nursing that I have become more and more interested in pursuing.

I would be really appreciative if any nursing informatics specialists could share some of their personal insights or responses to any of the following questions. I think that a career in nursing informatics is where I am headed and I think that hearing from those in the field will help me to begin towards this goal.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to share your knowledge.

  • What are some important personal characteristics needed for success in nursing informatics?
  • What type of experience with information technology did you have before deciding to pursue nursing informatics specifically? How did this help?
  • In order to specialize in nursing informatics, what recommendations in regards to education or work experiences would you recommend for somebody at my level education and experience?
  • What professional organizations are you a member of? What types of activities does this organization offer?
  • Anything else that might be useful to know?
