I need help on a math question. Here it is:
A 22 kg 8 yr old child with herpes has the following orders:
IV of D5.25 NS at 14 mL/hr
Acyclovir (5mg/mL) 100 mg IV every 8hr. Give over 1 hour
What is the calculated medication VTBI?
My book says to use this formula D/H x Q? 100/5 x 1 = 20, but the the total for the day is 1320 mg. Wouldn't I just divide this by 3 to get the medication per dose? SO CONFUSED! Then, is this safe?
My guide says:
- 15-60 mg/kg/day divided by q8h
- infusion time II: 60 min
- final concentartion for infusion after reconstitution not to exceed 7 mg/ml
- compatible w/ D5W, NaCl solutions and LR
