Hey!
My husband is military and we have orders to San Diego in July. I graduated nursing school in December and got a new grad job on my floor (Pediatrics) right away. I have been with my company for over 5 years and on my floor as a tech for over 3 years. By the time we move, I will have 6 months of RN experience. Does anyone know if I am still considered a New Grad in California with my amount of experience? I am just curious as to what kind of jobs I should be looking at and applying for. I would really love to stay in Peds (adults scare me haha). Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
P.s. I am currently getting my RN-BSN and will be done the end of October.

Ugh this is my third time writing. This app is not too user friendly!
Jobs in sd are hard to come by. You still qualify for a new grad position I believe. Many programs will state 18 months or less since graduation. That's good bc the new grad programs are great however yet are few and far between. I would try calling and speaking w recruiters at ucsd and rady children's, also scripps. Kaiser and sharps basically want you to be an employee before they train you--they are more difficult.
If you had a little more experience, traveling would be your best bet. That's how most of us get out here. Maybe stay 6 more months and get a year experience then try traveling here. Call Amn or cross country and see what they suggest.
Good luck!!

Tks07.. Thanks for the info.. Would u also recommend someone with no hospital experience but been working for 3 yrs now as an RN to travel?? I just couldnt get a hospital job here in san diego and since im not a new grad anymore-- that takes away my little chance.. I had an interview at scripps for that med surg position that i qualified for but i guess-- they still chose someone that has an acute experience over me and it is sooo frustrating ... Now i'm thiking of going out of state and see is there's any where would accept my credentials -- just to get that 1yr experience but i am not sure if travelling would bring me somewhere... I am just missing that "acute care experience" uugggh! Idk what else to do..
I am confused-- what experience do u have? I thought u were peds for 6 mos. you graduated w in 18 mos so u might be fine as a new grad.
You can only travel w the experience you have--so if you've not worked in a hospital then you cannot travel -- from my experience.
Good luck!
