Pediatric outpatient to inpatient

Nurses General Nursing

Hi! Looking for any advice and resource suggestions people may have for a nurse transitioning from an outpatient setting to inpatient.

I have been a nurse for 4 years in outpatient pediatric settings (a special needs school with complex kids and now a pediatric office) and have started to apply for inpatient jobs. My long term goal is NICU but I'm happy with anything inpatient with pediatrics to get my foot in the door.

I landed an interview with Boston Children's Hospital (my dream hospital/job) in a few weeks and I am SO excited but so nervous!é It'll be an interview and shadow experience on a med Surg floor. I obviously want to make a good impression, ask good questions and hopefully land the job.

I am looking for any suggestions on ways to make myself stand out at the interview, questions to ask, and just any other suggestions people may have! Also wondering if anyone has suggestions on books/resources that may be good to read to help with this transition and things I should focus on to advance my career in this way  I am very passionate about pediatrics and have wanted to work inpatient since I decided I wanted to be a nurse, so I am very excited for even the opportunity to interview.

Thanks in advance!

hi, did you interview? how did it go? I am in a situation similar to you (mix of in and outpatient) and applying to a peds hospitL. wondering how your experience was!

How did this go? Were you successful at getting into inpatient, and if yes, do you like it? I've been a peds outpatient nurse since I got my BSN but I have been thinking about going into inpatient and am curious how your experience has been with that same process.
