I have a question about Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. I would like to know what their salary is, the education needed to become one, their duties, the history of this occupation, and the benefits. So if anyone would answer any or all of these to the best of their knowledge I would greatly appreciate it.

I am a Family Practice NP student and just finished my pediatric rotation with an NP. Salary depends on location, setting, experience and ability to negotiate credit for experience, incentives etc. Most start out as new NPs and are not given credit for RN experience so a cut in pay may occur. Setting can be in a physican practice, clinic, hospital or any location where pediatric services are provided. The NP I had my experience with had her own patients, saw any pateitn that was scheduled, took call and worked independent of the physician. She consulted the pediatrician when unusual findings were witnessed or she wished verification of a less common diagnosis. Education is at the graduate level and if a graduate degree has been acquired then a certificate is an option. I am a certificate student.
I do not know the history. Hope this helps.
