I will be graduating in May as a Patient Care Assistant in Florida and will be moving to Asheville NC soon after. I will be working for a year to gain residency and then plan to continue my nursing education. I had a few questions that I hope someone can help me out with... :) Do they have "PCAs" in NC or are they considered to be CNA II? Also, concerning reciprocity, do I need to take another exam in NC or just list with the NC boards? Id love to hear from people who work in the area their opinions on various hospitals...
Thank you so much!!

Welcome to NC, Brena! No, we do not have PCAs in NC - We have NAI and NAIIs instead. For information concerning both:
NAI:

NAII:

I am not sure about reciprocity among states for NAI or NAII. Anyone have any information about this? You can also contact the NCBON to ask about this:

Just received this news flash concerning NAIs:
Effective July 1, 2006, all individuals seeking listing on the Nurse Aide I Registry, including those in nursing programs, will be required to take a competency test. Under this new system, the State will contract with a single vendor (not yet specified or chosen) to provide state-wide testing services. This vendor will replace all evaluation programs currently approved by the State.
