Looking to relocate to NC (Husband hopefully going to Duke for Law School) I have heard conflicting stories that hospital do not give good health benefits or they are expensive. Does anyone know about this??
Thanks

From my own experience with Duke, their salaries are lower than any other area hospital, benefits are sub-par and expensive, and they are the only hospital in the area that makes employees pay for parking at $6/day! That plus the political environment due to recent news reports about things that have happened there made it enough for me to no longer want to work there. Are you absolutely set on working at Duke? There are lots of other choices in the area -- UNC Hospitals, the VA Hospital (next to Duke), Durham Regional, REX Healthcare, Wake Med, several small community hospitals ... there are many choices that are much more "employee-friendly."

PCMH has great employee health coverage (very reasonable). Many of the outlying community hospitals do not.
Hi NurseKitty,
No, doesn't have to be Duke I work at. He is going to school there, but I can work anywhere. I like community hospitals rather than big ones anyway. But the cost of healthcare coverage and benefits will be a big factor. Here is Massachusetts we have great health benefits in the hospitals so we are use to this. Thank you for your reply.

Lori where in Mass are you from. I am from western Mass and plan a move to Charlotte this coming summer.
Hi Shannon,
I live 20 mins North of Boston. Like it here but the winters are getting too cold and the cost of living is high. We're looking to relocate in the Raleigh area. Want the slow pace of life now.
