I recently came back as a rehire to my same job after leaving away for 3 months with my husband for his work. My director was really cool and said if I wanted to come back I could apply and shed hold my position for me.
So anyway HR offered me a $2 raise (I was getting 22.50/hr before so now $24.50/hr offered). When I began the whole process and I got to the part where I go to HR to sign papers, including the offer letter, it stated you will receive $24.50 an hour plus a $2 specialty pay. The specialty pay will begin when you've completed orientation and are working independently. So I got excited like yay $4 extra!
I got my first paycheck and they didn't include the $2 specialty. I called them and they said that's only when I work in transition and catch or deliver babies. Right now I'm just a floor nursery nurse- qualified to work in transition but I'm never put in there anymore lately. Anyway I was in a rush to hang up so I didn't get to ask more questions but I'm wondering can I fight this?
I have in writing an offer letter to get paid $26.50 but they're now telling me no it's only if I catch. I tried to research this online but I can't find anything concrete to help my case if I go talk to HR.

Unless the offer in writing states $26.50 per hour period then it would fall back onto the institution policy. If it says $24.50 + $2/HR "specialty pay" but does not stipulate what qualifies as speciality pay it falls back to the institution policy. It's all about how it was worded.
