I just started orientation at a LTC, my first job as a LPN. I was speaking to one of the other nurses and she told me in the last facility she worked in, there were two nurses technicially assigned to 40 patients but many times she was left on her own. 40 patients?? Needless to say im getting nervous..
So im curious... whats your nurse to patient ratio?

3 plus one head nurse per 40 pts on days, 2 sometimes 1 per 40 on evenings, and 1 per 40 on nights. Our vent unit is most often 1 nurse to 11 pts, except when its time to do careplans and other paperwork then it's 1 nurse plus head nurse for 11pts. Evening and nights on that unit are 1 nurse 11 pts.
It's the CNA staffing that will scare you. 6 per 40 is a dream, usually turns out to be 4 per 40 on days, then 2 per 40 for evenings and nights.

2 plus one charge nurse and a nurse manager on days. Weekends, evenings and nights we have 2 nurses. We have anywhere from 33-35 residents with most of them being respiratory problems (trachs, O2, etc). We have about 7 tube feeders. Most times we have only 4 aides on days even though we should have 5. 3 aids on evenings and 2 on nights.
