Passed CNA class but scared about the state test

Published

Hi I finished my CNA class in February 2013 and I'm taking my state test this Saturday June 2013 which is 4 days away.

I feel like ill be able to pass the written part but I am absolutely tariffed to do the skills. Does anyone have any tips for me?

I passed my final skill in my CNA with a 100% but I'm thinking they will be more strict at the actual state test.

also another question i have is if i don't do the steps in order listed in my practice book will i fail? because with ambulation using a gate belt it has me get them up and walking 10 steps then tells me to lock wheel chair breaks.

i would lock the wheel chair breaks first so i didn't leave them standing by themselves so i didn't know if it mattered what order you did them in. thanks!

The thing to remember while doing the skills exam is safety, safety, safety!! You would always lock a wheelchair before you got a patient out of it or put them into it.

If you skip or forget a step you may inform your instructor and verbally tell them what step you missed and when you would have done it, but only during that particular skill. In other words, you cant have moved on to the next skill and suddenly remember you forgot something during the previous skill.

You must pass hand-washing, which is one of the five skills in order to pass.

You may fail one skill, (except hand washing) and still pass the exam.

You may not skip any of the steps in bold (safety steps) and still pass the skill.

Just because you forget one of the minor steps (I forgot to take the dirty blanket off during the occupied bed strip) doesn't mean you fail the skill. You can't miss very many though, or you do fail.

Remember always safety safety safety. That is what they are looking for.

Bed in lowest position, call bell in reach, wheelchair locked, bed locked, etc. None of these can be missed. Privacy also.

Remember, each skill will always start with you washing your hands, introducing yourself, providing privacy and each skill will end with bed in lowest position, call bell in reach.

Hope I helped.

Try to go through all of the 6 principals of car. D I S C I P. Make sure you got those all covered for each task and you'll be fine. If you forget to do something, say pull a curtain for privacy, they'll allow you to verbally make that up at the end of the skill.

I have no idea what this means, so maybe the OP doesn't either. Can you explain?

Yes I'm not really sure what you mean either.
