Hello I recently received a letter from Pasadena City college spring 2009 RN program stating that I'm an alternate. What does that mean? I'm from northern california and the junior college we have here takes 3-4 alternates each semester for the program; if an admitted nursing student fails or drops in the 1st semester the first alternate on the list is 'admitted' is that like PCC? How many alternates are there? Is an alternate just all those (qualified) who weren't accepted for the program? should i still attend the orientation? I've had my letter of "alternate" for over a week and have not received a call? How long do the accepted students have to decide if he/she wants to accept admittance? Because I need to figure out my living situation being that I'm from Northern California!!
thanks

Is there some reason you haven't contacted the college that sent you the letter with these questions?

If you are serious about going to PCC, you should definitely attend the orientation. Many alternates are chosen since so many students apply at different schools and are accepted to more then one, and but then wait till the last minute before deciding which school to take. I heard of one alternate who was called the day class started. This sounds like it could be a problem for you.
Call the PCC Nursing dept. The lady who usually answers the phone is really nice and will answer your questions.
I'm am just completing 1st semester in the RN program and was accepted upon my first application.
Good luck,
