Don't expect any sort of consistency in your schedule for the 4 mo nths of the residency. You will know what your class days will be upfront, but your clinical time will be scheduled on a month by month basis and will be done so you have around 80 hours per 2 week pay period when combined with your classroom hours. Your clinical schedule will depend on what preceptors they put you with. You will have to work when your precoptor does. I know ER can have some odd shifts like 3-3, etc.
I'm a Nurse intern at Parkland (slightly different from the residency)...
Mostly, the ER shifts are 7-7. Your schedule will be a mixture of class days and days on the floor. I'm not sure exactly how that works in the residency, but in the internship we have 1-2 class days a week and 3-4 clinical days a week. It averages out to 40 hrs/week. The interns work a mixture of 8 and 12 hour shifts...so I imagine the same would hold true for the residents.
I *love* the Parkland ER!!! You made a great choice!

Hey, I was wondering if there was anyone that would be starting or have completed the critical care residency at parkalnd. I was wondering during the first 4 months how will your schedule be? What shifts do the ER nurses work? I was hired but really don't now how the program works. Would love to hear any information about this program and what to expect.
