PALM BEACH STATE ASN NURSING

HEY GUYS!! I am currently finishing up my prerequisites at Broward College! I plan on applying to nursing program at palm beach state for the fall term.. I am debating between the lake worth and belle glades campus because from what I can tell the belle glade campus is a lot lees competitive. I will be applying with 24 points!! not sure if that's enough to-get me in. Anyone else interested in the program??? any advice?? I am freaking out here

Hi! PBSC Belle Glade Nursing Student here. I am finishing my first semester, actually. I debated the two for a very long time because, while I am closer to Lake Worth, I loved the intimacy that came with Belle Glade. Belle Glade only accepts up to 30 students a year, and we have all become very close. Our professors are always hands-on in our learning, which is great when you have chosen to be in a hands-on profession. The best thing to know is that it is the same program. No matter what campus you choose, you will have different professors, teaching techniques, but the same curriculum.

I applied with 25 points, but the requirements change every semester, so make sure you check. It should be included in the informative PowerPoint they have you look at when you apply. Lake Worth accepts applicants twice a year. If you don't get in the first time, please don't be discouraged. A couple of my friends didn't get in until their third time applying. Just because you don't get accepted the first time does not mean you are any less of a nursing student than the rest of us, though. Once you get in, you are going to realize that applying is the easiest part of all of this.

I highly recommend taking NUR1024 (Critical Thinking Skills) and NUR1141 (Pharmacology) if you haven't already. The critical thinking class helps you develop logic and reasoning for clinical judgment in test-taking and, eventually, real life. Pharmacology can be A LOT. I never had time to take it before the program and I am taking it with the rest of the classes right now. While it does go hand in hand with what you already learn in theory class, it is still a lot of information to take in. Not to mention, you have a million things to do already, and adding what feels like a million drugs to the mix might overwhelm you. It's not the worst thing in the world, but if you can take it before, then you can focus completely on your nursing courses.

Best of luck! It's tough, but it will be worth it.
