Pain Management NP?

Specialties NP

Hi, I am just wondering if there are any pain management NPs out there. If so, what is your role? thanks

I don't know if you'll find people with that specific title ... or if there are a lot of NP's in outpatient practice who specialize in outpatient management.

But if you are interested in pain management career opportunities, you might want to expand your inquiries to include pain specialists in inpatient facilities and inquire in the general discussion section as well as the NP forum. You might get more responses from people in a broader range of roles that way. Many hospitals hire Master's prepared pain specialists that may or may not be NP's.

I don't run across NP's working in Pain Management in the hospitals I've worked for and I'm attributing that to the fact that we have Anesthesia-Pain Service Fellows who manage the service with the attendings. However, I've seen postings and have actually interviewed (in the distant past) for a Pain Service NP position. The position I interviewed for (which I ended up declining) involved mostly out-patient management of chronic pain patients some of whom have intrathecal devices. There are some procedures done by the NP's which might have involved doing some nerve blocks but it's been so long so I'm not positive on the details anymore. There is some in-patient role to cover consults but that was not a regular role for the NP's. Obviously, the role requires a DEA certificate.

Thanks for the replies. There was an ad for a pain management NP out pt. no weekends or holidays! wasn't sure what it entailed

How do you like being an NP, what is it like?
